Beat the heat and enjoy a cool down from a Claremont Fire Department truck! This free pop-up sprayground will be held Thursday August 13, 2-4 pm in a Claremont City Park parking lot. A limit of 25 people will be allowed to play at one time with a rotation of every 15 minutes if capacity is reached. Visitors should stay six-feet away from anyone who doesn’t live in their household while they play and wear a face covering while waiting to go into the spray area.

Claremont City Council will hold a special called Council meeting on Monday, June 15, 2020, at 5:30 p.m., at Claremont City Hall. This meeting will hold a public hearing for citizen input on the FY 2020-2021 budget. A copy of the budget can be obtained at City Hall and has been posted to the City website.

The City will host a beard competition this year in honor of its 125th Anniversary, also known as the Quasquicentennial Year. Competition sign-ups are open until the end of April and competition ends the week of November 26th with judging done on November 30th. The competition is open to anyone that lives or works in Catawba County.

During the month of April, the Claremont Fire Department will be testing and flushing fire hydrants throughout the city. This process can cause sedimentation in the water lines. If you see sediment or discoloration, please allow the water to run for a few minutes to clear. As a reminder, there needs to be a 3-foot clearance to provide access to the hydrant for maintenance and use. If you have any questions you can call the Fire Department or City Hall.

Prysmian Group has announced a new investment in Claremont, NC. Prysmian Group, the world leader in the energy and telecom cable and systems industry, announced an expansion to the company’s facility in Claremont, N.C. The $54 million investment will increase the plant’s capacity by 60 percent and support the production of optical fiber for the telecom industry. With this investment, Prysmian Group has approved a capital expenditure of more than $79 million for its Claremont facility since 2014.
